Melanie Lynskey
Melanie Jayne Lynskey was born on May 16th, 1977 in New Zealand. Her portrayals of women with complex personalities, as well as her ability to speak American dialects make her a popular choice in independent film work. Lynskey has been awarded two Critics' Choice Awards. She also won Gracie or an New Zealand Film Award. A Hollywood Film Award. Sundance Special Jury Award. Gotham, Satellite and Saturn. Independent Spirit. Screen Actors Guild. Primetime Emmy Award nominations.
Lynskey made her debut on the screen in Heavenly Creatures (1994), winning a New Zealand Film Award for her portrayal of teenage murderess Pauline Parker. She later appeared in many international productions which included Ever After (1998), Detroit Rock City, But I'm a Cheerleader The Cherry Orchard, Snakeskin (2001), Shooters, Abandon, Sweet Home Alabama (2/22/02). Lynskey made a name for herself as a character actor upon her arrival in the United States.
Lynskey's leading role in the film Hello I Must Be Going as a divorced woman who is depressed received critical acclaim in 2012 and earned her a Gotham Award nomination. This was an important moment in her career. The following lead roles followed included The Big Ask (2013), Happy Christmas, We'll Never Have Paris, Goodbye to All That (all 2014), The Intervention, Rainbow Time, Little Boxes (all 2016) I'm Not Feeling at In This World Anymore, And Then I Go (both 2017), Sadie (2018) and Lady of the Manor (2021) made her an influential figure in the American independent film industry.
